Meet Alex, your phone receptionist

What Alex says, what Alex will not say, and what you set up.

What Alex does on a call

Alex answers as your receptionist, in short plain sentences. Callers ask about hours, services, and prices; Alex answers from the facts you taught it and captures the caller’s name, best number, and what they need, then tells you.

You choose the mode: Alex answers every call, or only rescues the calls your team missed.

What Alex refuses to do

Alex never guesses. If a caller asks something you have not taught it, Alex says it does not want to give a wrong answer and takes a message instead. Your business facts list is the whole script.

Transfers and closed hours

You can give Alex transfer destinations, like your cell for emergencies. When you are closed, Alex does not ring anyone; it takes a callback message and tells the caller exactly when you open next.

If a call slips through

If Alex ever cannot pick up, callers reach voicemail, and the recording still becomes a lead with the caller’s number, so nothing is lost.

Getting your calls to Alex

Alex answers on its own dedicated number, and your existing business number never changes. You point calls at Alex with call forwarding from your phone or carrier: forward everything and Alex answers every call, or forward only unanswered calls so Alex picks up what your team could not, replacing voicemail. The Voice Agent page in your dashboard shows the exact forwarding steps for the mode you chose.

Turn Alex on before you set up forwarding. If forwarding is on while Alex is off, callers will hear a not-in-service message. Turning forwarding off at your carrier puts everything back exactly as it was.

Quick questions

Do my customers have to call a new number?

No. You keep your number exactly as it is. Alex has its own line inside Nebula, and you forward your existing line to it: every call, or only the calls you miss, so Alex replaces your voicemail instead of you. Turning forwarding off is one tap, so you are never locked in.
