How the 49-point rank grid works
Real searches at real map points, and what the colors mean.
49 real checks, every audit
Every audit runs 49 real Google Maps searches, spread across a 7 by 7 grid of points around your location. Each point answers one question: when someone standing there searches your keyword, where do you rank?
Choosing a bigger coverage size spreads those 49 points across a wider area. It changes how far the map reaches, not how many real checks run.
Reading the map
Green points mean you rank at or near the top there. Red means you are far down or missing. A cell marked 20+ means you were not in the top 20 results at that spot.
The full color map you see is drawn from those 49 measured points. The rules we hold the checker to are public, written out on our checker rules page.
Quick questions
Why do rankings differ from what I see on my phone?
Local rankings change with the searcher’s exact location. Your phone shows the result for where you are standing; the grid shows results from 49 different spots around your business.
